Suggested Uses: This is a clump-forming grass that has a beautiful golden color in fall. It is an excellent grass for restoration, as well as landscaping projects. It is also excellent for soil stabilization and its height makes it useful as a windbreak. Can be aggressive in small areas, we recommend using this grass in large projects.
Native Range: Native throughout the contiguous U.S. except for the Pacific Northwest.
Wildlife Value: Host plant for several species of moths and skipper butterflies. Provides food and shelter for many birds and small animals. Pheasants in particular make use of switchgrass.
Livestock: This is a good grass for warm season pasture. It produces high-quality hay. Has recently been recognized as an excellent biofuel!
