Flowers: The 1/3" long pea-like flowers grow in a long, upright, terminal cluster 3"-7" long.
Leaves: The leaves are palm-like with 7-11 "fingers" attached at a central point. The leaflet are up to 2" long.

 

Suggested Uses:

Plant this wildflower to help protect the Karner Blue Butterflies! This beautiful flower does well on deep, sandy soils. Great for the rock garden and lovely in bouquets!

Food Uses: Poisonous.
Other Uses: Lupine is the only food of the Karner Blue butterfly, which is in danger of extinction due to the decline of Lupines.
More Information:
Name: Called lupine after the Latin word for wolf. People originally thought that it caused poor soil. Actually, it improves soil.
