Flowers: The flower heads bloom in a large cluster at the top of the plant. Each 1/4" flower head is made up of tiny pink or white ray flowers. Each flower will produce a single seed.
Leaves: The opposite, lance-shaped/triangular leaves meet each other around the stem, giving the appearance of one big diamond shaped leaf with a stem perforating the center. They are toothed and have lots of tiny hairs, more on the underside than the top.

 

Suggested Uses:

The flowers from this plant are attractive to butterflies and the seeds to birds. Boneset is excellent for use in a rain garden or shoreline restoration  projects!

 

Interesting Facts:

Medicinal Uses: Early settlers wrapped Boneset in splints because they believe that it would heal bones. Dried leaves were used in a tea used to treat colds, coughs, and constipation.

Other Uses: It is very attractive to butterflies.
More Information:
Name: The common name refers to the fact that it was once thought to heal broken bones. The King of Pontus - Mithridates Eupator, used Eupatorium as an antidote for poison.
