Flowers: The 1-2" flower heads have 35-45 petal-like ray flowers surrounding yellow disk flowers. The flower stalk is hairy and sticky. The petals can be many different shades of pink, blue, lavender, or white.
Leaves: The 1 1/2"-5" hairy, clasping leaves are lance shaped to elliptical.
Suggested Uses:
This is an excellent restoration plant for shoreline, moist meadows and large rain gardens. It is very showy in the fall and makes a nice specimen plant, but it needs some room. It is a very late bloomer and therefore an excellent source of nectar for bees and butterflies late in the season!

Medicinal Uses: New England Aster has been used to treat diarrhea, pain and fevers.
Food Uses:
Other Uses: It is a good plant for bees as it provides nectar into the fall. Migrating Monarch butterflies are especially attracted to it.
