Flowers: This is a composite flower. It has a sharp bristly cone with light lavender, long, slender ray flowers that curve downward.
Leaves: Leaves are basal, long, narrow and also quite rough to the touch.

Suggested Uses:

This showy coneflower grows happily on sandy, gravelly soils in sun or part shade It is attractive to the American Goldfinch that feeds on its seeds You will also find butterflies perched on the flowers feeding on nectar. The cut and dried flowers add bold character bouquets!

Medicinal Uses: Today Echinacea is used to boost the immune system. It is believed to ward off colds and the flu but at high doses, the effectiveness decreases. Recent studies show that Echinacea may have anti-inflammatory properties and be useful in a wide variety of areas. Native Americans used Echinacea to treat snakebites, burns, toothaches, colds, sore throat, headache, gonorrhea, mumps, tonsillitis, and smallpox (when mixed with puffball spores and skunk oil). Early settlers used it for almost every ailment. The juice from the plant can prevent burns.
