Flowers: The disk flowers (the area between the drooping yellow petal-like ray flowers) turn gray at maturity and have a strong pleasant odor when crushed.
Leaves: The leaves are pinnately compound and have tiny gray hairs.

 

Suggested Uses:

This is an excellent, showy prairie garden plant! It's flowers and nice straight sturdy stems make them wonderful cut flowers for any wildflower bouquet. The yellow composite flowers are attractive to both butterflies and beneficial insects. Additionally, these wildflowers are very useful in prairie and shoreline restoration projects!

Medicinal Uses: Ratibida root was used to treat toothaches.
Food Uses:
Other Uses: Seed-heads feed birds. Ratibida is attractive to butterflies. The dried flower heads have a strong spicy odor. when crushed.
